Welcome to Léviathan et Béhémoth
I discovered my interest in the Napoleonic period in 1975 through Rick Crane's wargame rules Tricolor and David Chandler's Campaigns of Napoleon. I never lost the interest, but couldn't pursue it through a twenty-plus-year career in the Navy submarine force. Tiring of one-off games in the early 2000's, I looked for a campaign game and discovered Manny Granillo's Corps Command. I wanted 'something' in the background to develop interesting scenarios for miniature games that had a 'context': Why were the troops fighting? What effect did victory or defeat have on the larger stage? ADG's Empires in Arms and Compass Games' Nations in Arms could do this to some extent, but similar to Corps Command Campaigns, players would get so involved in the larger game, that the miniature battles would become an annoyance.
Léviathan et Béhémoth is an attempt to model the diplomatic and economic developments in the period from 1792 through 1820 to develop an interesting, possibly alternate, world for games with model soldiers. It will also give me a rationale for studying an historical period that fascinates me, and may even generate interesting topical discussions.
